“We are honored to have enlisted the service of some of the most intelligent, innovative, and thoughtful minds South Carolina has to offer,” said DHEC Director Edward Simmer, “Together, they have thoughtfully identified what we as a state are doing well when it comes to providing health and environmental services, as well as core areas for improvement. We thank them for their service to our state and are committed to ensuring their recommendations are shared with our Board, the General Assembly, Governor, and members of the public.”

During the hybrid in-person and virtual meeting, the full task force will review and discuss their final recommendations to improve the future of health and environmental services within the state.

“SHaPE SC has worked over the past five months to conduct an in-depth review of South Carolina’s health and environmental protection services provided by state government with the greater good in mind,” said SHaPE SC Task Force Chair and Former State Senator Larry Martin. “Our task force members have generously and freely contributed their time, expertise, and passion for our state to make this effort a meaningful success. We look forward to publishing a final report of the tasks force’s final findings and recommendations in the near future.”

“From day one, our goal was to shape a better future for the health of the people and environment of South Carolina,” said SHaPE SC Task Force Facilitator Bernie Hawkins, “Thanks to the dedication, expertise and input of the SHaPE SC task force members, we are well on our way to laying the strong foundation needed to achieve that goal.”

Upon final evaluation, the task force will provide a report of its recommendations to the Board no later than Nov. 10, 2021, for review and approval prior to submission to the General Assembly and Governor. A final report will be published online at shapesouthcarolina.gov at that time.
